As you probably know, we’ve been Porsche dealers for quite a while. Over the years, we’ve noticed that a lot of drivers are confused about the difference between SUVs and crossovers, and many of them mistakenly use the terms “SUV” and “crossover” interchangeably. While SUVs and crossovers have certain things in common, they are not the same type of vehicle.

Greater ground clearance, increased towing capability, and seating for a larger number of people are a few of the things that SUVs and crossovers usually have in common when they’re compared to automobiles like sedans. Although crossovers and SUVs typically share some key characteristics, their platforms are fundamentally different.

A crossover is built on the same platform as a car while an SUV is built on the same platform that’s used to build a truck. The architecture of an SUV is often described as “unibody” because the vehicle’s platform and body are made with the same piece of material. The design of an SUV is usually described as “body on frame” by contrast. That’s because the body of an SUV is made independently from its platform and then they’re placed together down the line.

Now that you know the main difference between SUVs and crossovers, it’s time to start shopping for a premium vehicle like the 2018 Porsche Macan. Visit Tom Wood Porsche to find a luxury automobile that suits your lifestyle and driving preferences today. We can’t wait to see you in the driver’s seat of a new Porsche vehicle soon!
